More women than ever are stepping out on their own or joining all-female groups to explore the world. But for these women, travel is no longer just about ticking off destinations or taking a quick vacation. It’s about something deeper; connection, healing, adventure, and safety. In today’s world, women are seeking travel experiences that go beyond the ordinary, looking for journeys that nourish their soul, empower their spirit, and offer opportunities for personal growth.
1. The Shift in Travel Preferences: From Vacation to Experience
For years, travel was often seen as a simple break from daily life. It was about escaping the routine, relaxing by the beach, or exploring iconic tourist destinations. But today, women are seeking more — they want travel that offers a deeper connection. Whether it’s solo trips or women-only groups, the trend is clear: women are redefining what travel means to them.
In 2025, I embarked on a life-changing solo journey to Kenya, not just for sightseeing, but to reconnect with myself after a challenging period in my life. Kenya wasn’t just a destination for me; it became a place where I learned about the resilience of the people, the power of nature, and the deep emotional and spiritual healing that comes with immersing yourself in an unfamiliar world. I was able to truly understand the transformative potential of travel — not just as an escape, but as a tool for personal growth and healing.
2. Connection: Building Bonds and Finding Sisterhood
When I travelled with a group to Paris, Amsterdam, Belgium, and Berlin in 2024, the shared experiences of exploring these vibrant cities, bonding over meals, and navigating new cultures helped me create lasting friendships. We weren’t just tourists; we were a sisterhood, supporting each other through the highs and lows of travel. The connections made on that trip are still meaningful to me today. Travel, especially in a group, offers the unique opportunity to build bonds that go beyond a typical vacation.
3. Healing: Traveling as a Journey of Renewal
For many women, travel has become a form of healing. Whether recovering from personal loss, navigating career transitions, or simply needing a break from the pressures of everyday life, travel provides a therapeutic escape. A retreat in the mountains, a quiet beach getaway, or a yoga and wellness retreat can offer the space and peace needed to restore balance and renew the soul.
4. Adventure: Pushing Boundaries and Embracing the Unknown
For many women, the call for adventure is also a call for self-discovery — a chance to challenge themselves in ways they may not have before.
While in Dubai, I experienced the thrill of a desert safari. From dune bashing in a 4×4 to camel riding in the vast desert, it was an adventure like no other. But beyond the adrenaline, it was the sense of awe I felt surrounded by the natural beauty of the desert that left a lasting impact. That experience of embracing the unknown and pushing my comfort zone — whether through hiking or snorkeling — continues to shape my travels today.
5. Safety: Prioritizing Peace of Mind
While the desire for adventure and healing is strong, safety is always a priority. Women today are becoming more conscious of the importance of traveling with a sense of security and peace of mind. Whether traveling solo or with a group, finding safe and welcoming destinations is essential.
My experience in Uganda in 2020, where I was unfortunately robbed, taught me the importance of safety and preparedness while traveling. It was a difficult situation that I learned a lot from, but it also reinforced my commitment to being more mindful of the environments I’m in and ensuring that I take the necessary precautions. Despite this setback, I’ve learned to trust my instincts and find ways to travel safely, ensuring that my journeys are not only adventurous but also secure.
6. The Future of Women’s Travel: Embracing More than Just a Vacation
The future of women’s travel is no longer just about the typical tourist experience. Women are leading the way in seeking travel that nourishes their mind, body, and spirit.
As I continue to travel, I am continually inspired by the women I meet along the way — those who embrace solo travel, those who create powerful connections in groups, and those who travel for healing and self-discovery. These women are redefining the travel landscape and showing the world that there’s so much more to travel than sightseeing. It’s about growing, discovering, and empowering ourselves through every experience.
Conclusion: Why Women Should Travel More
More than ever, women are embracing the power of travel. It’s not just a vacation; it’s a journey of healing, connection, and adventure.
So, if you’re a woman thinking about traveling, don’t wait. The world is waiting for you to experience its beauty, its adventure, and its healing power. Take that step — whether solo or with a group — and embrace the transformation that comes with exploring the world on your terms.
